Causes of Cerebral Palsy

Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Here are a few mistakes doctors make that could ultimately cause Cerebral Palsy:
·        Leaving a child in the birth canal too long resulting in lack of oxygen to the brain
·        Failure to recognize and treat seizures post-delivery
·        Failure to correct an umbilical cord wrapped around a child’s neck
·        Excessive use of vacuum extraction
·        Improper use of forceps
·        During fetal distress, opting not to perform a C-Section
·        Ignoring alterations in the fetal heart rate
·        Not recognizing or treating changes in the mother’s condition, such as high blood pressure or toxemia
·        Not treating jaundice in time
·        Failure to timely diagnose and treat meningitis
If any of these things occurred while you were giving birth and your child now suffers from Cerebral Palsy, think of what needs to be done.  Doctors should be held responsible for their actions—let us help - call the attorneys at Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP at 1-800-460-0606.

Texas Supreme Court Travelgate Scandal

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008
After a week of headlines dominated about the Texas Supreme Court’s Travelgate scandal, newspaper editorial boards across the state are weighing in.  The scandals surrounding members of Texas Supreme Court are in the spotlight. For more information visit www.TexasWatch.org.  Following is an excerpt from the Dallas Morning News.
“With conduct like this, we wonder what the title of ‘justice’ really stands for.” “The Texas Supreme Court has become a public spectacle. It’s bad enough that a majority of the Court performs as a wholly owned subsidiary of Texans for Lawsuit Reform. Now it’s apparent that a third of the judges — Nathan Hecht, Paul Green, and David Medina — have no compunction about flouting ethics rules by using campaign funds as a piggybank for their personal travel to and from work. Texas Watch has filed complaints against all three judges with the Texas Ethics Commission.”

KEEPING BABIES SAFE

Friday, January 25th, 2008

“It is the nature of babies to be in bliss.” – Deepak Chopra

Though Chopra has it largely correct, what happens when your new baby falls ill? Hospitals are usually a trusted source for treatment of someone you love, but mistakes made in hospitals can be fatal.

One mistake that could affect your baby’s health is an overdose of medicine. Usually the means of determining the dose to give such a small child is determined by weight. Since many baby scales report weight in both pounds/ounces and kilograms, it can be very easy for the doctor, nurse, or technician to make a big mistake.

To protect your baby, stay vigilant—if you get a chance to see your baby’s papers, check his/her recorded weight to see that it makes logical sense for your child. For reference, a school textbook weighs approximately one kilogram, and two apples make a pound.
