An Illinois woman settled a birth injury lawsuit on May 20, 2008 for $15.35 million. Her infant son suffered brain damage during birth at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, Illinois.

The woman claimed that the doctor who delivered her baby did not properly use a vacuum extractor. The lawsuit claims that the doctor, along with the medical staff that was present for the birth, acted negligently.

The lawsuit claims that the improper use of the vacuum extractor left the infant with permanent disfigurement and brain damage. The hospital was also sited for acting negligently.

Birth injury attorneys are working to prevent the life-long devastation that birth trauma can create.
