Families of Cerebral Palsy Patients File Lawsuit against Makers of Botox
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008On July 9, 2008, the families of several cerebral palsy patients filed a lawsuit against Allergan, the makers of Botox. The lawsuit claims that users were not properly informed of the dangers of Botox.
The lawsuit indicates that three people died due to off-label use of Botox. The drug has been prescribed to children in order to treat muscles spasticity due to cerebral palsy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the use of asbestos to treat cerebral palsy. In February, the FDA issued a warning about the off-label use of Botox.
Cerebral palsy is a condition commonly caused from birth trauma. Lack of oxygen during birth can result in extensive brain damage, leading to life-long conditions, such as cerebral palsy. Birth trauma lawyers believe that it is the responsibility of physicians to provide a reasonable level of care to every patient, in order to help prevent birth injuries.
