Judgment Against New York Hospital in Medical Malpractice Case

Strong Memorial Hospital in New York was recently ordered to pay $17 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit. The plaintiff claims that poor planning caused doctors to make costly mistakes while delivering her baby.
During her c-section, doctors cut the connection between her bladder and transplanted pancreas, causing urine and pancreatic fluid to flow freely in her abdomen. The pancreatic fluid burned her organs, ate through her abdominal wall, and caused doctors to remove her pancreas.
Strong Memorial Hospital officials say doctors did the best they could with what they knew at the time, and plan to appeal the jury’s decision.
